Dear alumni and friends,
Wanted to bring you up to date on some recent happenings concerning the alumni association. For one, we just celebrated our third successful Hall of Fame dinner at Il Fornetto's in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. Once again, my congratulations to our honorees and their families and friends who joined them at the event. At the same time, we honored the current principal of Sheepshead Bay High School, Ms. Reesa Levy who has turned the school from an impact school in jeapordy of closing to one that has surpassed everyone's expectations in becoming a successful school and one we can be proud of. For those of you who aren't aware, some familiar names that have closed include Tilden, Erasmus, Jefferson, South Shore, and Lafayette. Incidentally, Ms. Levy is the wife of our our alumni, Steve Levy of the class of '63.
Last, I wanted to let you know of a change in the status of the founders association. Sheepshead Bay High School Founders Alumni Association is now a 501(c)(3) organization and has been granted exempt status from Federal Income tax. What this also means is contributions to the organization are deductible. The association is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts. As you may or may not know, New York City school budgets have been cut and programs, both scholastic and athletic, have been hurt due to lack of funds. Our new status will enable us to assist the school by making funds available which they will not have access to from the city or state. My compliments and congratulations to all those who have helped with this transition.
For all those who wish to make a donation can make it in the name of Sheepshead Bay High School Founders Alumni Association and send it to our Financial Secretary, Stan Weilgus. c/o
